RIGHT TO HIKE ANNOUNCES 5th ANNUAL ELLA’S RUN FOR OCTOBER 6, 2012 Georgia’s Own Credit Union Commits as Presenting Sponsor for Second Year
(Atlanta, GA) – Right to Hike, Inc. is proud to announce the 5th Annual Ella’s Run Presented by Georgia’s Own Credit Union, to be held on Saturday, October 6th, at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center starting at 9:00am. This year will feature the traditional 5K course that participants can choose to run or walk, the one mile fun run/walk or if you are up to the challenge Right to Hike Inc, is bringing back by popular demand, the 5K Mud Run for the second year. The Mud Run will take you on a path that is both paved and on trails that incorporate mud obstacles. It will be a separately timed race that is sure to challenge the most avid runners.
Steve Cannon, Executive Director of the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center added, “The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center shares the same common mission and values as that of Right To Hike, but more importantly we share Meredith's love of the outdoors and the right to live without fear as we enjoy nature. Meredith’s love for the outdoors, family, and animals is key to the motivation and partnership developed between the Center and the 5th Annual Ella’s Run. This unique family friendly event encourages a healthy lifestyle, an opportunity to enjoy nature, and is a supportive community cause of promoting pet adoptions. Meredith’s love of life is an inspiration for me personally and Right To Hike serves a role model for community betterment that we fully support.”
Right to Hike, Inc. was founded to honor the life of Meredith Hope Emerson who lost her life while hiking in the North Georgia Mountains on New Year’s Day 2008. Emerson was a Buford, Georgia resident who loved the outdoors, her black lab Ella and the community. The main goals of this non-profit is to continue to contribute to the things Meredith loved most in life and strive to make the outdoors a safer place that people can enjoy without fear. “It is hard to believe that this is already our 5th year for Ella’s Run. The community has truly embraced this event and shown that Meredith’s life was not taken in vain, her life continues with each person that comes out to honor her memory,” says Julia Karrenbauer, President of Right to Hike, Inc.
As in years past this event will continue to encourage participants and spectators to bring their dogs to enjoy this special day. This year Right to Hike, Inc. will give each dog that comes to the event a special gift to honor Meredith’s dog, Ella. Registration will include the race, a custom long sleeve t-shirt, and a festival complete with food, beer garden, door prizes and multiple vendors. Ella’s Run will once again welcome Georgia’s Own Credit Union as the Presenting Sponsor for the event. “We are truly honored to be the Presenting Sponsor of this Event for the 2nd year in a row. It is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the life of Emerson and the community which we proudly serve,” as expressed by Marilyn Merritt, Branch Manager of Georgia’s Own Credit Union’s Buford Branch. Save time race morning and pick-up your shirt, bib number and goodie bag the night before the race at the Buford Branch Georgia's Own Credit Union.
All proceeds from this event will go towards Right to Hike’s main focus of donating emergency cell phone units to local parks, trails and greenways. Thus far, the group has donated three phones, one each at the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center, Suwanee Greenway and the new Gary Pirkle Park in Sugar Hill.
“Through the years we have not only donated these emergency units, but we have also contributed funds to Meredith’s Scholarship at The University of Georgia, partnered with humane societies and supported numerous local organizations in need. It is because of partners like Georgia’s Own Credit Union that affords us the opportunity to support all the various interests that Meredith enjoyed,” says Brent Seyler, Vice President of Right to Hike, Inc.
