I'm planning on doing a 5-6 day hike in October, but I can't decide what section to do! What section(s) would be the best in mid October? Should I head north or south? (I'm in southern PA)

Thanks!

There are plenty to choose. If it were me, I pick heading North from the Elk Garden parking lot in Southern Virginia through the Mt. Rogers/Grayson Highlands to Partnership Shelter. It's a great time of year for views and colors. There are no huge climbs. There are plenty of awsome places to camp and some excellent shelters. They also have wild horses. It's about 3 or 4 hours drive for you. It's easy to get a shuttle from Partnership Shelter back to Elk Garden. Another great hike would be from Rockfish Gap North through SNP.
