Here is one well equipped hiker! But I wonder if he should stop in at Neel's Gap for some adjustments!!

Care to lay odds on his chances of completing a North Bound Thru hike???

That's how I felt the first time I tried to hike for nine days without resupply!

And I thought I was nuts about having exterior pockets on my pack! He seems to have gone a bit overboard, though...

He could reduce his weight if he would cut holes in that large sign of his. :)

Looks like U-Haul from last year. Anybody meet him on the trail?

Looks like he picked up all the gear on the side of the trail and at shelters at the southern terminus.

What is he thinking about, I would never wear cotton on the trail!

Haha, totally. He made it all the way with that pack, as far as I know he ignored much of hikers' "advice" on how to lower his pack weight..

Wuff, I don't believe U-Haul made it all the way. I saw him a few miles north of Hot Springs on 4/6/11 then again on 9/3/11 in the Hundred Mile Wilderness near Jo-Mary Rd.

From my trail journal "I met "U-Haul" today; I hadn't seen him since Hot Springs, NC. He got his trail name because he carries a huge pack and sometimes up to 30 days of food. He is doing about five miles a day and had flipped from Erwin, TN up to Katahdin and is now going south."

Ahh, for some reason I had U-Haul confused with Checklist, who also had a heavy pack, but who definitely finished the trail - he was fast too, despite the weight. Not sure I ever met U-Haul, but heard about him early in my hike, somewhere in NC/TN...
