I am looking for a source for silnylon bags. Specifically, I am looking for something large enough for a group of 6 hikers to share for bear bagging food.

Any ideas?

Six hikers sharing one bear bag might break the limb because of the leveraged weight of the bag when you hang it 5 foot from the trunk of the tree. Have you thought about 2 three person bags?

Just have everyone get their own, maybe hook 2 together and have 3 lines. you need a bag to keep your food organized in your pack anyway.

fits plenty of food if you aren't packing giant things and water proof in case it rains.

OK, I'm game. Any source for two, three person sized bags?

We are only 3 days between resupplies, so we are not talking about large amounts of food. In fact, after we eat lunch and dinner the first day, we are down to 2 days each before we hang the bag. Most of us use a 3 oz "Folders plastic coffee can" to pack food; they are a luxury at that weight, but it keeps breads and similar items from being crushed. They will keep water out, but are not critter-proof. I can fit 2 days worth of food in 1 container.

When you look at it, we are only hanging 15 lbs. Any branch that can't handle that should avoided for a bear bag anyway.

If you want cheap and easy, you could pick up some bags at Walmart. They're not silnylon though.

15 lbs doesn't sound like enough food. I'd think it'd be more like 1.5 pounds per person per day, or 18 lbs for 2 days. The coffee cans and other scented things will add more weight. You know your group better though.

15 lbs isn't much weight, but it's a lot to drag a branch over. Unless you're using a thick slick rope, you can easily cut into the branch. Even if you don't care about the tree, that can leave you with a sticky rope.

You can get silnylon bags here.

Are you going to use a rock bag?

I love the Walmart bags. They are cheep, waterproof until they get a pinhole, - ALL the bags get pinholes - light, and work great.

There are lots on ebay at reasonable prices. Also, they are very easy and quick to make if someone in your group sews. Dyi gear supply has good prices on seconds of silnylon.
