"If they get this big" is the subject of your thread but it should be "Another idiot kills a snake".

As do all Music Players worn by hikers not paying much attention (via vibration).....

That's going to feed his family for a week, provide him with a belt, and give his kids some rattles to play with.

It doesn't look dead to me, especially near the head ... and if it is dead, why is he holding it with a pole? Just askin'.

Looks a lot flatter there than I expect the AT to be...
I'm afraid with the houses in the background I will not criticise the demise of the snake, although magnificent specimen that it is may have found a home with a zoo or similar.
When hiking I photograph snakes, walk around them, admire them etc. I am very much looking forward to seeing "rattlers".
But in my last house I killed an average of one tiger snake every year.
I will not have poisonous snakes sharing the yard with children.
I was raising three children and tiger snakes were often coming in from a nearby swamp.

Couple of Quick Questions ATmilkman
1) Do you float?
2) Are you lighter than a duck?

If I can handle Bubba the large copperhead at my caretaker site this summer, YOU can go take a hike where the rattlesnakes live! :)

I do float, I'm not lighter than a duck, and I am full of it 90% no make it 50% of the time. Heck my initials are BS, whats that tell ya. (LOL)

Makes it look bigger.

I agree, chief, ... due to perspective, the houses in the background appear much smaller than their actual size, and for the same reason, the man thrusting the snake out on a pole in front of him makes him appear smaller, too. Thus, the snake by comparison seems huge! I still don't understand why the head end of the snake is still S-shaped and not hanging straight down like the tail end.

If you float, are lighter than a duck and left handed you must be a witch! But your heavier than a duck.

We were hiking on the Pinhoti last fall and my better half was within 6" of putting her foot down on a large eastern diamondback, I didn't realize she could be that acrobatic. I normally dont kill snakes but was concerned some hiker behind us might be bitten since the snake was almost impossible to see in the leaves. The 12 rattles and a button made a nice zipper pull. Dont know if the wife will ever return to the trail.
