Would appreciate info concerning parking/shuttle near Rockfish Gap and Front Royal in VA.
Planning a section from Jennings Creek to Front Royal in Oct.:)
You can park for free at The Inn at Afton at Rockfish Gap but honestly I wouldn't recommend staying there as the place is (was when I was there) a bonafide dump.
It was bad. Really bad. One of the worse hotels I've ever stayed in.

Jeeeez, would your vehicle even be safe at that dump?
Yeah.. I parked there while I hiked back from Harper's Ferry. It's a very safe place to park. But man, don't stay there.

Don't forget to check in with the front desk at the Inn while parking there. A waiver form must be filled out first.
The shuttle list for that area can be seen at the visitors information center, a double wide trailer which sits at the lower parking area from the Inn . Their hours are from 9 to 5 pm during the summer.
Rockfish Outfitters, 3 miles west on Rt.250 also has a shuttle list. www.rockfishgapoutfitters.com (http://www.rockfishgapoutfitters.com)
Wow, that place is still open? It's like The Shining got dumpy and moved back East.

The owners of the Inn have apparantly little interest in renovating the place. The tall sign that can be seen from the road finally got replaced.

I completely Agree. My wife and I stayed there once before we were married and I promised her we would never stay there again. I'd chisel a cave out of some of the rocks up there before I stayed there again!
I parked at the 4-H Center which is 1/mile from the A.T. Once you hit the A.T., you have only a half mile to the Tom Floyd Shelter. I left my care there and shuttled south, coming back 11 days later without a problem.
