ibird Pro! Fantastic birding app and I've learned so much during my Thru. Weighs a lot less than any bird book.

Accuterra, now NeoTrekGPS is very good as long as you have a cell signal.

I have 360panorama for the 360 shots and RadarUS for keeping up to date if it looks like storms are coming.

10K, NeoTrekGPS works without cell signal if you download maps in advance. I lock my SIM when I leave the trailhead which turns off the cell phone. Battery lasts longer when phone is not searching for cell signal. Most GPS apps will work without cell signal as long as you use the lock SIM technique. Putting the phone in airplane mode is not the same and will not work.

GoskyWatch, great celestial program that shows you the actual night sky & identifies the objects for you (stars, planets etc), at your exact location & exact time when you look up at the sky.

+1 on iBird Pro. A professional level program that's easy to use. Great photography as well, & commentary.

iTrack, as good as ibirdpro, but for identifying animal tracks, scat, plus of course encyclopedic info on habitat, habits, what they eat, etc. A professional level program that's easy to use. Great photography as well, & commentary.

I live in a place with LOTS of rocks, so to learn geology in a fun, friendly way, I like easyLearn Rocks & Minerals.

in a pinch for a quick flashlight or a compass, the Flashlight app is really easy to use.

HTH & have fun!

I upgraded to alltrails pro like it fun accurate app for iPhone was able to find. Things off trail no problem when playing with it. Fun to map out own topo map which also shows elevation gain not bad for the money (buying maps would have been the same).

Can you start a new thread on this and give some more detail? I am very interested!

I have several bird apps but I typically use Audubon or Peterson before iBird. If any of you want to report your bird sightings while you're out there, BirdLog NA is a great app when you have good service. Us scientists appreciate the data :) I also have the Audubon Insects & Spiders and Audubon Reptiles & Amphibians.
