I have not seen anyone mention Slim Jim's. They are my favorite protein snack.

Me too. Hiking in the Rockies the altitude killed my appetite for almost anything, had slim jims for breakfast though, about the only thing that had a taste I could eat.

I prefer jerky. I came up with my own marinade to monitor the salt content. Same idea as the slim jim: Great on-the-go protein bump.

4.5 pounds of london broil (raw) = 1.5 pounds of jerky (dehydrated)

I used to eat them as a child.

Then I learned how to read a nutrition label:

I make Pemmican for three day or week long backpacking trips.

It is easy to make and packs lot of nutrients.

There is also fat free recipes as well.

Slim Jims are horrible for you. They might be tasty, but they are also deadly. Yes read the label!

Actually I don't see deadly on the label. Or is it the mechanically separated chicken?

If I fed them to my dog and tried to sleep in the same tent with him they probably would be deadly...if you'd ever hiked with Ruger you'd know what I mean.

Enjoy your sausage. But don't ask to see how it's made.

Its right there next to twinkies in my book of eeewwwe.... Rugby likes them .... But I don't buy it anymore.....

I love making my own jerky and have gotten very good at it. My freinds cant wait to try the latest batch. Have you considered Jacks wild side instead?
