I have a pet project to make the alcohol stove equivalent of a jetboil. This is to get the quietness of alcohol, yet be able to quickly heat water for a small group. Also connivence is a big factor, I need this to just work well.

My present alcohol stove (Vargo Ti) has a 'bloom' around the outer edge which does not work well with jetboil style heat exchangers - though I was able to confirm that alcohol can reach near jetboil speeds. I really need something where the flame is more centered and points up instead of out.

Suggestions?

also look at tetkoba. His stoves are state of the art, with a focus on the art! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA97x9o0_2Q I've tried many of them, and have been mostly successful. They never seem to have the jet like his, but they boil water.

You might need to make a stove with a wick. Go and get some Tiki wicks before they put them away until next spring.

Here's another video of the same stove by tetkoba, I'm posting it because you mentioned jetboil.

I designed 2 top jet stoves with integrated pot supports. Both were developed here in the DIY gear forum. All the info on how to make them are in the forum. Have fun on your new adventure.

The "GoTo" http://www.woodgaz-stove.com/goto-stove.php

and the "Cobalt Blue Soloist" http://www.woodgaz-stove.com/cobalt-blue-soloist.php

If your into making your own stove take a look at this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvP74w74srU. I made this stove and boiled water at 4 min. and 1 oz of fuel burned for over 18 min.
Enjoy

Deerpath, how did you get the aluminium pipe to bend without kinking? I tried the sand with no luck.
