Anyone know how far Foamhenge (the foam replica of Stonehenge) is from the AT? I have seen vids of people visiting it on thru-hikes but I can't seem to find out how close it is to the trail.

It's actually a place name on Google Maps. Here are the directions for the AT crossing of US 501.

Edited version with the route marked a little better and an overhead photo.

Thanks for the info odd man out. We have something similar in Georgia called the Georgia Guidestones. They are not near the AT but are still quite interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Guidestones

Thanks. I was riding on the front of this boat at full throttle in this exact location (or pretty darn close), whale watching ex Juneau.

As for foamhenge alternatives, the Wikipedia page says there is also a carhenge (in NE), strawhenge, phoneboothhenge, twinkiehenge, mudhenge, tankhenge, microhenge (only 80 microns in diameter), fridgehenge, portapottyhenge, and snowhenge (in my hometown). Not all of these are still in existence.

That "henge" link is interesting.... LOL!! I see you are from Michigan. (snowhenge) I don't know if the foamhenge is always open on a regular basis.

This is an article about the creator of foamhenge.

Thanks for all the info and links. I've seen people visiting it in a few trail blogs on youtube and I am considering a weird roadside attraction trip this fall. Thought it would be cool to squeeze in a little hike while I'm there.

Much like the Cadillac Ranch

I am thinking they are not included with the Stonehenge replicas as they are in a line, and not a circle.
Still good wacky destinations though.

By the way, there's a farmer in Esperance Western Australia, who's made a replica in stone (granite) of the original Stonehenge. Not the current ruined one but what it would have looked like when "new".
