To sort of piggy-back on the other thread with a member looking for tents, I'm not against doing a simple tarp shelter either. I'd like to see some good setups, using rope/paracord, hiking poles, etc - whatever. Have at it!

Hmm I have a few on my gallery, this was a custom close to silnylon just a little thicker - General made it and did an excellent job.

I use my sub 2 lb tent to protect me from bugs, torrential rain and to up the temp rating on my bag. Will those do any of those?

17537 Will work in torrential rain (site properly) and with bugs (add a net). Will not keep you as warm as a tent, I suspect.

I didn't think this was a debate, tent vs. tarp, just providing pictures as requested. At 8 oz, the tarp is a pretty sweet set-up. It can be set-up more enclosed if heavy rain is expected.17538 A 5 oz poncho which doubles as a pack cover and groundcloth is a good 3 in 1 item to improve the tarp setup.

NICE. I'll have to experiment with that last design....

Great topic... I'm looking into a cuben tarp myself and am going to make this my shelter of choice.

When I hike the PCT I'm planning on a tarp.

I like the very first design as well. If I can find an easy design that has the inside completely covered I'm all for it. Now what kind of tarps are these? Regular store bought tarps?

The pictures in my first post, as well as these two options, are of a Cuben fibre tent from ZPacks. The total enclosure picture came from their web site. 1754217543
