Not much, but I definately see some white spots up above tree line on Mt Adams this morning. It always happens about this time of year. A rainy spell is pushed out by a cold front and as it is clearing, some snow falls. Sometimes a lot.

With all the rainy days we had last week and now this, I bet there are a lot of late season thru-hikers still in Maine who wish they had gotten there a few weeks earlier! Maybe they will have a good last week before Baxter closes.

This is terrible news. I promise to never talk about snow UNLESS I'M OUT IN IT.

Hoping for a good snow year. Almost no snowshoeing in Vermont last winter.

http://www.almanac.com/content/long-range-winter-weather-forecast-2012-2013-season

The long-range forecast covers November 2012 through March 2013.

2012–2013 U.S. Weather Highlights

The 2013 Almanac says that temperatures will be much colder this winter from the East Coast westward to a line from the Dakotas to Texas.
In every place west of this line, except for portions of the Desert Southwest, temperatures will be warmer than last winter.
Snowfall will be above normal near the Great Salt Lake and in the areas from El Paso to Detroit to Virginia Beach.
Snowfall be will below normal in most other locations that have snow.
Good news: Areas suffering from drought during Summer 2012 should receive enough winter precipitation to bring improvement.
Spring and summer will be much rainier than normal in Florida, easing its drought.
Drier-than-normal weather will continue to be the rule in much of Georgia.
Summer temperatures will be hotter than normal along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and in the Ohio Valley, but cooler than normal elsewhere.
Expect fewer tornadoes than in the past couple of years.
Be ready for hurricanes to threaten first the Gulf and Atlantic coasts in June and then primarily the Southeast, especially Florida, through the remainder of the hurricane season.

I hope we get pounded again like the 10/11 season, although I'm not quite ready for it yet. A week of Indian summer soon would be nice...

It snowed quite a bit on Stratton that weekend - I lucked out, having close to perfect conditions the weekend before.

The summits are still in the clouds, but it looks kinda frosty down to about 2500 feet this morning. I bet Katahdin is closed today and a lot of hikers woke up to frozen boots this morning.

Obs says 3.6" inches accumulated up top overnight. I keep wanting the clouds to clear in order to get the first pretty white-capped webcam views of the season.

Snow on top of Camel's Hump (VT) yesterday, too. Psyched for winter, but some Indian Summer days would be welcome, too.

Wow... Makes me wonder: What is the average date for snow to fall in any area of the continental U.S.?

Me and a few friends did a hike in the catskills from early Sunday morning until Monday evening. We spent the night around devil's acre lean to which around 2 miles from the hunter mountain fire tower and sits at ~ 3k feet. It started raining at 7 but quickly changed to all snow by 8. It was a heavy, wet snow that was accumulating on top of our tents and on virtually everything everything else. It came down pretty hard until midnight and I could hear the wet snow plopping down on my rain fly, accumulating until it got too heavy to withstand the angle, and then sliding off onto the ground. That, combined with the sound of dead leaves getting pelted by the stuff, made for a very loud night and a very spotty sleep. By the time morning rolled around, everything had melted and there was a thick fog covering the area. It was a very chilly start, but a truly wonderful experience...something I'll always look back on fondly even though it kinda sucked at the time.

we went to the daks in early oct a few years ago - maybe like the 4-8 or something of oct....no snow on the ground down low, but there was over 2 feet above 3000 feet.

Winter is starting to settle in. Looks like more snow up high last night, more coming and a real cold morning Saturday. Who ever hasn't made it to Katahdin yet has probably missed thier chance. Sure hope that guy "Special" isn't still planning to start a SOBO at the end of the month!

Last week WMUR had videos and photos of the plow clearing the toll road on Mt. Washington and snow on Cannon. A couple of lost hikers spent a frosty night in the woods a week ago.
