So 2 years I go a case of the plantar facciitis in my left foot and it took a year for it resolve, but every once in a while it remind me its there.

Recently I had some numbness in my toe on my right foot . Just got back from the poditrist and guess what, I got a case of morton's neuroma.

Both my feet suck, I want new ones.

I never had foot problems until this past summer when I did 120 miles in 8 days in PA. I think the plantar faccitis (spelling?) was from me overdoing the daily miles and the pounding on the feet due to the rocks. (While me spirit and the rest of me can handle that kind of daily mileage, my feet can't). That said, I looked up morton's neuroma, and it sounds like it is caused by abuse as well.

My guess (only a guess!) is that you might want to lower miles and make sure you have the best footwear possible!

Sorry for your foot challenges.

I have had very severe PF in the past. For me and my feet I had to start and continue a solid stretching routine. For me my doc said that I was not getting enough flexability in my feet before beating them up.

10 years later - no problems, still beating the heck out of them.

Try looking up preventative stretching.

Great advice... My hubby has those issues with his feet as well. Doctor gave him the same advice... Hope it helps you, TheYoungOne

Ugh. I wish you luck. This may not work for you, but it helped me and is worth a mention: I dealt with nasty PF for a year and a half. Hiked a bunch even so and just dealt with the nasty next-day pain. Laid off from hiking from Thanksgiving weekend last year to mid-Feb, and it was gone. Doesn't, so far, come back to haunt or remind me. I exercised a lot at the gym during my layoff from hiking, so I wasn't resting my foot entirely, but the leg/cardio work was low impact - elliptical and stationary bike - and I swam once weekly or so.

Maybe laying off of hiking for a while, yet getting in good exercise otherwise, will help you. Hope it, or something, does.

I had all sorts of foot problems, including that PF, plus metatarsalgia. Finally went to the foot doc and got orthodics. That was 8 years ago, no serious foot problems since. Orthodics basically saved my hiking "career". Expensive ($400 for the 1st pair, $200 for additional pairs), but 100% worth it for me. I tried all the store-bought "super feet" type of insoles. They did not help. Only the foot doc's version worked for me, but of course, everyone is different.

One other tid-bit: I used to do long distance hiking in trail runners. Lots of folks swear by these. I took their word for it. I finally tried low-cut hiking boots with a much stiffer sole, Merrell Chameleons, in particular. This helped my feet tremendously, much less foot fatigue with the stiff sole. I tried trail runners again recently, didn't work well for a long hike. Yes, I'm getting up there in age (56) and this probably makes a big difference, but basically no more trail runners for me.

Are you looking for sympathy, or suggestions for your condition? It's hard to tell in your post.

You can have both sympathy and advice in this post :)
My doctor diagnosed morton's neuroma in my right foot quite a quite a few years ago. I also have very high arches that were putting uneven stress on the balls of both feet. My feet would start hurting after less than 10 miles. I got the (expensive) prescription orthotics and things improved immediately. No kidding. I agree 100% with Colorado Rob. I would probably not even be hiking anymore if not for the orthotics and stiff soled boots. No trail runners for me either. My health insurance fully covered the cost of the orthotics, so you might want to check into that. Good luck!

My PF problem came from my hiking the AT in a real rocky area in PA with a 40lb pack. I was an idiot newbie and I paid the price. Ironically the morton's thing started when I was just training for hiking, by walking a mile every day during my lunch breaks. With that the Dr. thinks it was maybe because my work shoes were too tight. I'm doing some shoe shopping, and I'm going to be getting some orthotics.

Have to agree with the stretching comments. I dealt with it for a year, now I stretch every day whether I hike, or not, and no problems.

you may think im crazy knowing that your feet hurt and all,but the best way to strengthen you feet and calves while stretching them is to walk barefoot.try it you will call me a dumb ... for about a month but you will like the results.start small around the house and build up your feet will toughen up .good luck

I am having a similar problem with my big toe feeling numb and tingly. This is particularly bad upon waking in the morning. I have self-diagnosed my problem as Joplin's Neuroma. I plan on seeing a specialist, but I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. The thing is that I have not been backpacking since June. I can't figure out why it's bothering me now. No new shoes, etc.
