Welcome, Wasp. You have described the best training plan for a comfortable-enough beginning of your hike through Georgia. The photos tell us that your training is through lovely areas of Germany. Keep up the good work, and, as you march past me on the trail, please stop to say hello (but no stinging!).

(but no stinging!)

No never, I am only a guest in your nice country, and yes If we meet up on the trail I stop and we can talk a little bit. No one of my ancestors ever reach your age, the oldest died with 76. So I wish you health and luck to enjoy your life on the trail :)

Me again :)

Maybe my last training round, Snow and strong wind from ENE. On the way home my footprints from three hours earlier are long gone.

Enjoy it.

Great pictures, and it looks like lovely walking!

Plan to do easy distances on the AT at first. If those pictures are typical of your conditions, the AT is a lot steeper than you're accustomed to. (The Appalachians aren't much compared with the Alps, but they are mountains.)

:welcome to the USA!

Right itīs a very flat place, only some hills, but no real Mountains. I train with 8-15 miles after work, mostly 3-4 Hours, sometimes 6 on weekends. Around 55miles a Week at the late afternoon, early evening. So I am ready for slow steps...and dont planing to overdo in the first days. Its a "marathon" not a "sprint". Its amazing 6 Days left :) :) :)

My father and I will be a few days behind you. Hopefully we will be able to pass along a "hello" out on the trail (if we ever catch up to you).

At least your trail name will be easy to remember! ;)

Oh yes, I check the hiker list and see you are starting April 5th. How fast are you two? I think I am not very fast...so there is a chance for a "hello".

Since we are both over 50, we will start out slow and build from there. No 15 mile days out of the gate for us! Because of that, we will never catch you.

Wasp your training regimen is nearly identical to mine. Although I don't call my daily walks training, I call it a lifestyle. A lot of people will tell you walking on flat ground will not help you in the mountains but it surely does. The one big thing you'll notice is how much more water it takes to stay hydrated when you walking up a mountain verses walking on flat ground. The first day out drink plenty of water or muscles will cramp.

Oh yes right...over the time the training becomes more a lifestyle... I think I am addicted to it, I am getting nervous if I canīt go out because work or other restrictions hinder me. I think better walking on flat ground then to do nothing and go in unprepared. Now I knowing my gear, learn a little bit over my body (feet, kneeīs, back, recovering etc.) and how dogs and *grrrr* huntsmen react to hikers :)

Have a great experience Wasp! Will you be keeping an online Trail Journal of your thru hike?

Wasp

Hey RCBear thx :)

I dont have an online Trail Journal. After years in the office I will enjoy the nature and try to minimise the use of pcīs ;)
