rent some gear...?

hi, i am just starting with extended hikes. i have previously done many day solos and a couple of overnights. i was told by a friend that someone allowed him to rent some gear to try it out before purchasing his own. is there anyone who would be willing to do this? i would mostly be interested in tents and hammocks. thanks:)

REI rents gear. There is one in Greenville. Of course they don't carry the really really good stuff, but they do carry good stuff. And if they don't have something you are interested in for rent then you can always buy and return for a full refund no questions asked.

Try REI to rent it out but their selection is often smaller. THey also have a great return policy (backcountry too) so if you do get a tent, backpack, hammock or whatever and it's not your style, you can return it. Do your research before hand as not to return too many things either. Good luck!
