Hey gang,

Looking to do a day hike in the Blue Ridge Parkway from Reeds Gap to Tye River this week. Anybody know how the trail's looking in that region? Also, anyone know if the road is open? On the site, all they have is:

"Hurricane Sandy has affected the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, bringing snow, rain, and extreme wind, forcing closure of most sections of the Parkway. Until the weather improves and cleanup is completed, travel on the Parkway is not advised."

But I'm not sure how conclusive or old that alert is.

Any input appreciated, thanks,
Dan P.

These sites often offer more timely information concerning BRP road closures:

Hey there... I was up on the BRP last night but no where near Reeds Gap... I was at mile #22. It was fine. There's no snow. (We just got a dusting when the hurricane blew by us). Those links that SloHiker gave you look great. Looks like you'll have a nice hike!!

For a birds eye view of the weather in that neighborhood try the webcams at Shenandoah National Park. http://www.nps.gov/shen/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm
