I have a Gregory pack from ~1995. It's still in great shape...mainly b/c I never used it much. I'm starting to ease into Backpacking on a regular basis (hoping to at least). I recently moved to Harpers Ferry, WV so accessing the trail is easy enough :) I would like to look up the specs on the pack so I can compare size, weight, etc. to the newer packs.

I have looked all through the pack for some indication of the model and can't find anything. Does anyone have any idea how I can find out the model of the pack/look it up? I didn't see anything a/b older models on the Gregory website either.

Do you have a picture of it?

I also bought a Gregory in 95. Mine is a Shasta. Shasta was popular that year, maybe that's what you have. Mine says Shasta on the removable top compartment. I have also recently gotten back into backpacking and this pack is definitely heavier than I would like it to be. I have spent money on converting to a hammock sleeper though and can't afford a new pack yet.

Put some pics up here and it'll probably be identified.
I would call Gregory directly too..

Yeah, pics would help. I finally gave away my old Shasta from the mid-90s. It was an excellent pack, but at this point it was just too big and heavy. But for getting into backpacking, it would be a fine start.

Assuming that you have one of the larger packs, like the Shasta, the key is to NOT fill the thing all the way.

@philszone95 my pack is definitely heavier that I'd like but I'm looking to invest in a Hammock and some other things. I don't think I'll get a new pack unless my aging, aching body forces me to. Some pics are attached.

@bigcranky, why do you say not to fill it all the way? The pack is plenty comfortable for me...at least on the short trips I've taken it on. Of course, I'm sure ignorance is bliss, in this case.

After thinking a/b it, the pack may be from '93 or '94. I probably bought it on sale as a previous year model. I want to say I paid around $250 for it but that was nearly 20 years ago now so my memory could definitely be compromised.

yeah, that doesn't look like my Shasta. It looks a bit smaller than a Shasta... I'm sure someone on here will identify it. Good Luck!

It is unbelievably difficult to find much information on packs that were around before the interwebs!

Just found out that you can view/search old issues of Backpacker...very cool!

I'm leaning towards thinking my pack is a Palisade Plus from 1993. Not sure if this link will work but there's a picture of a '92 version on page 65 of the May '92 issue:

Not to be a master of the obvious, but have you considered emailing Gregory and asking them? Seems like if anyone would be likely to know, it'd be the company that made it....

I'm going to contact Gregory...just haven't yet as I didn't realize it'd be this hard to figure it out.
