Just ordered a pair of Wintersilk long johns - total cost: $92.

Never tried silk underwear and am looking forward to checking it out.

Is there any place to buy it cheaper or has decent sales to look out for from time to time?

All my backpacking underwear are silk briefs. I take two and after about 10 days I need to switch to the other and clean the first in a creek and let it hang dry. Plus, I get the Wintersilks long sleeve turtleneck tops for my go-to standard-load layer in all seasons but it's always worn with my backpacking t-shirt over it. I prefer the men's Tall model as the sleeves are long and the waist is lower, a good thing in the winter.

$25 long silk underwear.

I don't have it, but I found out about it here.

One pair of underwear for $92? I just bought three from them and I think didn't spend more than $100. I wear them every day in winter (the lightweight ones).

Where did you get 3 pair for $100?

..and do you mean 3 pair top AND long john bottoms or boxer style bottoms or just tops?

I could have got 3 pair of bottoms OR tops for $120......

But I bought a pair of long john bottoms and a top.

Oh no - not the tops. Just the bottoms - ankle length. I used to get them for $19.99 on sale. Those days are gone.

Sale at Dharma Trading right now. BUT it's not as good as Wintersilks. http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1356444-AA.shtml?lnav=clothing_women.html

guys ...stop it... silk has a natural oder and other issues. If a polartec is cheaper just get it... its not about whats natural - its about the thickness of hair and fiber. ..(years working in the garment industry) the smaller the fiber and more tightly woven - traps air...as an insulator.

Actually, while I'm not bringing silk on the AT, I prefer it for day walks.
