I stayed there this year - friendly folks, clean facility. Right smack on the AT. Chuck came down the next morning to check out the hammock hang at the campground by the river.

I just stayed two nights and I don't have enough good things to say about Laughing Heart. The place was clean, my room was comfortable, and Polaris was very welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to another visit when I do my next section.

...and they are walking distance to the grocery store. Better yet, The Smoky Mountain Diner is really close.
Of course, every hiker's needs are walking distance from anywhere in Hot Springs. The perfect trail town.

Dang, wish I had gone there this past summer instead of what we did do! I'll be back next June so definitely going there this time!

This is my favorite place on the trail so far.

Clean
Affordable
No crazy rules
Options for everyone
Nicest people in the world. I have spent about 4 weekends here in private rooms and have always had a great experience. Big thanks to Chuck for providing such a wonderful environment in the south.

Had a very comfortable stay in September 2015. Polaris was a great host. The only negative was that it's at the top of a hill at the edge of town. There's a trail from the AT to the hostel so you don't have to walk a somewhat busy road into town, but then you have to go up the steps on the trail to get back to the hostel. Not what my knees were looking forward to that day. However, the hostel is a great place to hang out, so there's no reason to go anywhere once you've eaten in the diner, resupplied at Dollar General, and returned to your room.
