But wait there's more. You also get a pair of Ginsu knives. They slice. They dice. They even cut a steel nail in half!

however, I would like to douse the flames and say that he introduced a lot of new ideas and has a great amount of info- and helps many people selling kits.

have fun, neo.

I bought several of his knife making kits. Nice knives!

I hope to get started on the backpack soon.

I think it's about time he's marketing his own ideas. When you look at the cost of the pre-cut materials as if you had bought them all seperate, then you can see what a good deal his kits are.

Plus, he's teaching a valuable skill.
Well worth it, in my opinion, and I see nothing wrong with him making some money from his inventions.

Exactly. Better than giving them away to someone else that makes money off them.

I purchased and sewed the 2 person tarp kit off of Ray's website. I did the math, it would be more expensive for me to order the materials from OWF than in kit form from Ray. He's not making a killing from these kits. That tarp is my absolute favorite sheltor in the non buggy months. I hardly know I have it in my pack. I have yet so sew a net tent but I will probably do that later.

It would be a bit on the heavy side but I have thought about using the 2 person tarp in conjunction with my Hennessy for the ultimate in versatility, rain protection and comfort. I could sleep on the ground if I wanted...or I could hang. There is so much room under that tarp that I could cook and perform other activities in the rain that would be difficult under the normal Hennessy fly. I have yet to try this. David S.

The pack kit is not as much of a "good deal" as the quilt kit (the best value by far, though I find it interesting there are 2-3 add-ons for his "perfect" quilt:-?), you can buy a new similar pack for less than $50 if you look around. GoLite Dawn's are often available for less than $40.

If you do the math, I believe the pack kit cost almost $70 (if you buy the how-to video, $50 if you don't). Not sure about shipping.

I would avoid his thread. It is just too springy, tends to explode in bobbins that are less than one-half full causing lot of frustration.
