Stackpole Books has taken two old books about the AT and merged them into a single (edited) book for your Kindle. Right now (and you probably should hurry; prices change quickly) the book is available for free from here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JBL9ZK/).

Thanks for posting this.

This is a (greatly abbreviated) paperback/kindle version of the long out of print famous 2 volume Rodale Classic "Hiking the Appalachian Trail."

What I found surprising is that there already is a paperback version; it has 8 stories and about 220 pages. I assumed this would be a digital version of that. It is not. This version has 11 stories, and only 3 of them are repeats from the earlier paperback. It is also around 220 pages.

Downloading this is a no-brainer for anyone with a kindle.

Got mine, thanks for the heads up.

I also have the two volume set, but this is much lighter. :)
