I hike with my jack Russell. He gets cold while sitting a camp so looking to get him a jacket. Lots of options ruffwear etc. I would love advice from someone who has tried a few.

Go to a thrift store and get him a fleece pull over, or full zip. I shortened the sleeves to knee length for the two dobermans I hike with. A JR is a little smaller so you may need to look in the children section.

Haa I'd probably have to get a newborn pull over he's only 17 lbs and legs are less than 12".

For our little dogs, we buy a fleece jacket with elastic cuffs at Salvation Army. Cut the sleeves off, put two holes in each sleeve for the front legs. Two jackets for four bucks.

We bought our dogs their fleece coats at flyball tournaments. They sell all kinds of dog clothes etc... a lot of them are homemade- done really well.
BTW... saltysack, you were asking about finding/making a down sleeping bag for your Jack Russell? My brother has a down comforter he doesn't need anymore. I spoke up for it... the only bad thing about it is-it's white. I'm sure it washes well. But you would have to wash it more often being white. :(
