Large Google Map Image of Entire Appalachian Trail

Not sure if this exists, but I'd been searching for one for a while and I couldn't find one. So I made one. The file is large, but it's at a 10mi scale so it's pretty detailed.

At a glance, it looks very accurate for the AT, pretty accurate for the PCT, and in the general ballpark for the CDT, which is nicely in keeping with the relative precision of each trail. It has shelter infographs all along the AT, which is neat. What I don't like about it is that you can't link to a unique screenview of something, but I checked and you can work around that by copying the lat-long coordinates into something like Google Maps or ACME Mapper (http://mapper.acme.com) and link to your screen from there.

There's also Postholer's set of Google Maps (http://postholer.com/gmap/gmap.php), which allows you to toggle between all the major long-distance trails in the U.S. If you want super-duper-accurate for the PCT, look at Halfmile's PCT map. You can see the trail on the satellite images a lot of the time and his blue line is moving right down the middle of it.

Also I see now that you were talking about just a map image, which makes sense because the maps themselves are pretty easy to find. I can see why one might want something like that--say you wanted to make your own AT wall poster to save a little money :). Thanks for sharing it.

Dude, that is SAWEET! Thanks for sharing. Now i have to find a printer with a wide enough format to put the map in my office!

Which my co-workers lovingly call the "Tree hugging, dirt worshipping, hippy office". Somehow the decor already gives people that impression. :)

I'll probably make another one tonight at a bit larger scale. One that won't require a 10 foot piece of paper to print it out on. Maybe more like a 4 footer. LOL.

I was wondering when you would respond.....when I opened the link, and zoomed in, there was your location! I'm still deciding where to move, and I'm leaning towards Va, so I see a road trip in the future.
