So I'm having a lot of issues trying to find a trail runner that is comfortable. I generally wear K Swiss's tubes running shoes. I bartend so I'm on my feet for 12 hours and these are the most comfortable. Do I really need a trail runner or can i just wear running shoes.

Try Montrail Trail Runners... very nice shoe in sizes up to 15.

I personally wear a 15-16 depending on the brand. (15 in converse but 16 in most Keen) I bought a pair of Montrail Masochists size 15 but, unfortunately, they are to small so now they sit in my closet. Just a friendly warning.

I wear a size 15 also. But I'm more on the 14 1/2-15 side of the size. I wear New Balance trail runners, such as the M880TR. I've tried Nike trail runners, such as Nike Pegasus 29 trail. They have a wider toe box and they are taller at the fore foot, than the NB.

Trail runners will work if your pack is not too heavy.

I wear a 15 so the first problem is just finding something as I also have a narrow foot.

I second the New Balance as well.

Can't emphasize this enough. I'd say cut off is 30lbs. If over, get hiking boots. Otherwise you can likely get away with trail runners. With my heavy pack, swing weight of 34-45lbs, my low profile Merrel Moab Ventilators did not work well. I wear size 13, and have narrow feet as well. YMMV though.

Anyone given the New Balance MT710v2 a try? I'm a wide 14 in "everyday" life, and figure I'll need a 15 at some point on the trail. Slim pickens. I plan on being sub-30lbs total weight, so heavy pack shouldn't be an issue.

HAve you considered recycling those Montrails to someone else who needs em?

I wear a 15 for TR and hiking shoes/boots as well, and it can be a pain to find em in stock anywhere.

that is not true for everyone, I do best with running shoes with all weights / year round - no doubt that is not unique

It is nice to see so many responds from those of us who are more gifted than others! :) As previously been said, trail runners will work depending on how much you are carrying - body weight and pack weight.

Also in cold weather I would not suggest using running shoes. Have wet and cold feet, tracking though the snow is not fun. Running shoes don't have enough installation. I like Merrell but it really is personal choice. I suggest try on some boots, hike around some to see which pair fits you best. If possible, try to include enough room to put two fingers from the tip of your toe to the tip of the boot. As you hike your foot will natural swell up. It is important to have that extra room.
