Self defense on the trail

So have you ever needed any form of self defense while hiking? Do you carry any form of protection? I always carry a pistol on me, what do you suggest.

just good ol common sense and trust in your instincts, but carry whatever you feel will make you safer( just be aware of different state laws and if yu do choose to carry be discrete about it.plenty of people around, overwhelmingly good people.no real need.

the best protection while hiking is to hike with a fat man, or someone very old. you dont have to be the fastest person, just faster then the person your hiking with.

You've opened a can of worms on this topic and there will be others along to tell you what they think you need or dont need.

First and foremost the trail is pretty safe. But that does not change the fact that you should use your brains, comon sense and be situationally aware. If you choose to carry, and you have every right to do so, make sure you do so according to the laws of where you will travel. And concealed means concealed.
