I'm planning a SOBO thru hike starting in June. Will a 1 season (50 degree) UQ be enough insulation June - Aug.
If not, will a (30 deg) be too hot during summer months?

You need to look into the weather in the White Mountains. There is no way 50 is enough. I prepare for 35. It is summer so there will be some nice weather, but there will also be some chilly nights.

For what its worth I used a 20*(+2 oz over fill) quilt my entire thru this year and I slept great. If I was ever a little warm I just slid the uq up a little creating a little air between me and the quilt. Later on in my trip someone lent me a 0* uq that I used for my upper body and the other one I used at the bottom of the hammock.

used a 40 degree HG 3/4 from ME to Deleware Water Gap....
there were definitely some chilly nights when the temps dropped up north, but, was ok for the most part.

Used a 40 deg down bag through the Whites in the third week of September this fall (sobo). It was slightly cooler weather than normal, but then again, the weather is always crazy in those mountains. If I could do it again I would switch out to my 20 deg bag just for the Whites, and switch back to the 40 deg bag until West Virginia. I switched to the 20 deg bag after the Whites and was too warm in it until southern Pennsylvania. YMMV.
