Here are some pictures of training a Yellow Lab to help locate AT Corridor boundary monuments by smelling the oxidation of the aluminum . Over the years many of these monuments have been buried and are difficult to locate. 191081910919107

Need to borrow that dog! We are beginning to mark the boundary along the trail that our club maintains.
That's really smart. I would have never thought of doing that.

As a boundary monitor, and dog owner, I'm interested.
Please keep us informed on your success with this technique.
Are you putting your dog on a high aluminum diet or are you training him/her to sense the magnet that's attached to the back of the monument?
All joking aside, my wife and I have gotten great satisfaction finding monuments that even professional surveyors couldn't find.
Have fun and thnanks for your work!
That is awesome! How deep are the monuments buried that your dog can find? Your pooch is going to be in high demand with this skill!
