View Full Version : Billville Hiker Feed & Fiasco

Jester2000

A couple months after cancelling the thing, the Billville Hiker Feed is resurrected, this time in Duncannon. The dates are July 8, 9, 10 (I think -- it's the weekend AFTER July 4th). It's being held in the Centennial Park (did I spell that correctly?), with food, refreshments, and various shenanigans, including Sue Grace at the Doyle with the full band (I think) on Saturday night.

As per usual, The Feed and Fiasco is mainly for the current hikers and the town, although all are welcome to come help out and have some fun.

Trail Angel Mary (who is a member here) is organizing food & such, so if you think you might be able to contribute send her a message.

See you all in July (well, not all of you. That would be a bit much).

RED BLAZE MAGIC!!!!!

Rumor has it that red blazes will start appearing next to Continental Divide Markers. Make sure you all have a beer for me at the get together. I will be sure to report back how many red blazes appear out west.

Jester---

This is very good news indeed, looking forward very much to your soiree, and will do my best to attend, even if it means walking there, which is starting to look like a distinct possibility.

See you in five weeks......

Hell Jester, why did you schedule something in Duncanon the same weekend I am committed to be at a Tupperware Party in Cairo? The last time I ws in Duncanon Blue and Burley tried to "put out the Doyle" with a fire extinguisher. What a night, wish you were there.

Yeah, well, those kinds of things are exactly what we dont need.
That caused problems, as do a lot of inconsiderate actions by hikers. Billville is fun, funny and full of good cheer without being a destructive force on the ability for future hikers to be welcome at places along the trail.

I knew and liked Burly and Blue, but that incident wasnt appreciated by the owners one bit.

Blister
06-11-2005, 10:26
I agree with Lion King. After those guys did that, I remember a black list going up the line to other hostels of hikers to beware of. There was also incidents before I got to the Vernon hostel. Exactly what went down there, I forget, but it again caused animosity towards hikers.

So as quickly as I can:

1) Thought poorly of Gnarly, Burly and Blue after hearing of the incident at the Doyle, but changed my mind after their good work at the Vernon Hostel that same year. I think they regretted what happened and tried to do their best elsewhere (they were young and stupid, which is forgiveable, I think).

2) Follow the Red Blazes.

3)Things are going apace as far as planning for the Feed. Getting so excited I may have to start thinking about baseball.

4)I hope as many hikers as possible will either speed up, slow down, or get a hitch and join us in some fun.

Smell ya later!
Jester

P.S. Was unaware that the ATC Bicurious meeting was being held so close to our event. But if Miss J wants to fly into Harrisburg I'm sure we'll come get her. Wait, is there even an airport there? Has to be, right? It's the capital, after all. . .

The bad news is that I have to work on Friday the 8th (??) till 8pm. The good news is that I don't have to be back to work till Tuesday am. So, if I leave work exactly at 8pm (yeah, right) and don't stop for gas, food, or a p*ss break (yeah, right), I should arrive at about 3:21am saturday morning (according to maps.google.com) for Billville fun and festivities. More than likely that really means that I'll see all'a y'all sometime saturday late morning or noonish. The good part is that I don't have to get up and out early for the drive home on sunday feeling like the inside of a Yuengling bottle. MMM, Yuengling bottlles, even more MMM - Yuengling on tap.

As long as there is an outlet or two, I've got the projection covered. I will bring DVD player, 6' screen, and a digital projector from where I work. As long as there is someone (an AV person?? - I'm pretty much an idiot) to hook it all up, we've got the theatre.

Anyone up for a double feature?? Blazing Saddles, maybe?? That's all about being out on the trail, right?? Campfire, anyone??
Otherwise, bring whatever DVDs y'all want.

Hi Redneck Rye,
That is awesome. There are plenty of outlets. Don't know who all will be there that knows how to hook it all up but I think that is great. Someone or a community effort will be able to figure it out. I am usually pretty smart about figuring it out. But if I can't someone will. Jester is in town (Duncannon) as we speak. We went over the scheule this evening. We were going to have Walking with Freedom viewable on a small tv under the pavillion when any one wanted. But this will be much better. I will put the viewing of Walking with Freedom in the schedule on Friday night at 10:00. I will also try to find a spot for another viewing on Saturday.

I am sooooo sorry I woun't be there. Montana is awesome!!!! I have sighted a couple of red blazes here on the CDT - The first one appeared on the "first" CDT marker I saw after two days on the trail. Maybe Chomp can burn all the pictures from the billville sight to a CD for an ongoing slideshow of Billville get togethers. That way some of us can be there in spirit. By the way - yes, I have blisters and the chaffing is all I remembered it to be. I hope you remember my face cut out - so I can be int he group photo. Anyways I am surfing the whiteblaze sight while I do my laundry here at the laundrymat. Good hiker idea internet while doing your laundry. I wonder where I'll be out here during your festivities. Someone send me the cell numbers of who will be there. If I am in a town maybe I can call, a verbal appearance of sort. Send Chomp, Tricks and any others. Gary--

Best thing to do is check in at the Doyle Hotel when you get to town; there will either be maps posted, or you can simply ask someone for directions. The weekend's events will be split between the campsite and the Doyle (some folks will no doubt be staying in the Doyle for all or part of the weekend, tho most will be camping).

Hope to see lots of folks there....I've been in Harpers Ferry for awhile now, and ALL of the hikers seem to have heard of the event, tho some didn't believe it was actually happening, thinking it was some sort of Trail "urban legend."

Anyway, it is INDEED happening,it should be very well attended, and some of us will be in Duncannon as early as Thursday night. Hope lots of Whiteblaze folks can drop by, including some of the prospective hikers. It'll be a great weekend, with a lot of fun things going on....the Billville people do at least two things well: They throw a great party, and on occasion, they're also pretty good hikers.

Hope to see lots of you there, have a safe and happy July 4th.

Jester2000

'Lo all! I was talking to Mary today and things are just about ready for next weekend. The pig is being fattened, the band was practicing last night, and the tattoo artist . . . well, he's probably out drinking somewhere in Duncannon.

A request, please, to all who may be driving to the Feed (particularly those coming from the north):

If time and space permits, can you drop by some of the standard town haunts as you come? There has apparently been a lot of interest from hikers who have headed on but would like to come back. I'm thinking of Del Gap, Palmerton, and Port Clinton, but you'll know best based on your route. Keep your eyes peeled. Ouch!

The route to the camping area is not that complicated, but I think everyone should drop by the Doyle, have a beer (or a nonalcoholic beverage of your choice), and THEN ask for directions.

See you all there!

Lion King -- Good Lord, man. Get on yer horse. I don't think you want to miss this one.

Gary -- no to the generator. We gots electric. Yes on the women. We've got those too. They come from Dryland. But we can always use more. I'd give some thought to some shade, but there are covered pavillions and trees about, so don't fret too much.

Bring yourself and some cash to spend at the Doyle. Oh, and an Elvis jumpsuit, a large pair of tongs, and an inflatable monkey.

Jester is absolutely right...there are a lot of hikers wanting to come. They may be north or south of Duncannon. So please do stop by DWG, Palmerton, Port Clinton, 501 Shelter, Harpers Ferry, Caledonia, Pine Grove, Boiling Springs, if it's not too much trouble for you.. If you are driving and have room for a hiker please bring them along. We have the food and want them to come!! I made a 5 gallon tub of chili today donated by THE PUB, one of the many great sponsors from the town of Duncannon. YEAH! I also have another great donation promised from a local today. He will be coming on Saturday with a freezer full of homemade ice cream in the back of his pick-up, complete with bowls and spoons that he will give out for FREE!! I love Duncannon!
There is a schedule posted at the Doyle and on the mural in Duncannon which has the directions to the park. But as Jack and Jester mentioned, stop at the Doyle and have a beverage and get the specifics. There will also be a poster with schedule and map posted as you enter Duncannon from the trail.
I am so anxious! It will be a busy week getting ready but it will be so rewarding to see so many happy hikers and get to spend some time with them. And of course, an absolutely fun time with all the Bills!
SEE YOU IN DUNCANNON. COUNT DOWN 3 DAYS!! To the class of 2005, slow down or speed up but be at a trail head as close as you can. We will do our best to get you here.

I did a small part of making the Billville Hiker Feed and Fiasco a success. I am an organizer by the gift of God and enjoy it tremendously. However, I did not do it alone. Jester, Bag O' Tricks, Baltimore Jack, Mountain Dew, Walkin' Home, Mala, Chomp & VSA, Fred Lauster, Borough President, Sedentary Steve, and the many Duncannon residents and businesses made the feed a success.
