I have long know that a small meal before bed time starts the furnace to firing. Walkers shortbread cookies (@ 31% butter) hooked me up last night and gave me some warmth that I quickly harnessed by pulling up the covers as I slipped into bed. What do you eat before retiring to bed to give a little supplemental heat for some added warmth?19268

What warms your belly?A cup of Edward and Sons Miso soup(lower salt, NO MSG) or Cugino's Chicken Noodle soup(now in individual packets, sold at WalMart for about $1) and some Kashi Fire Roasted Veggie, Toasted Asiago, Honey Sesame, or 7 Grain crackers. Shot of Schnapps or brandy. Possibly, a Raw Revolution Golden Cashew bar or Cashew Cookie Lara bar for a dessert. Very filling. In the morn nosh a Bobo's Oat Bar(coconut, lemon poppy seed) or Pro Bar w/ a handful of dried coconut and nuts/seeds. Away we go.

No Jokes'''

Suggestions
A) Instant oatmeal with protein powder, powdered milk, and sugar.
(Can be eaten cold)
B) Pop Tarts (Very fast breakfast but short lasting energy source)
C) Granola with dried fruit (the fruit will help keep you regular)
D) Energy Bars
E) Plenty of Water (If you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated)
F) Hot Cocoa (If you have time. Cocoa can be a great starter, but be
aware that more water will be needed since Cocoa contains caffeine which is a diuretic.)

I'm typically only finishing dinner about an hour before bed anyway. but in the winter I pack in miniature chocolate candy bars (snickers, Milky Way, etc.). Everybody gets two right before bed.

That's me too. I usually hike till after sunset. Usually until 9 or 10 p.m. Stop. Set up camp, which is preferably cowboying. Eat, in my sleeping bag or next to a campfire. Sleep.

I was at the Robert Burns dinner last night. Ate lots of Walkers with 12 YO Macallen Single Malt. That and Tam O'Shanter rally warms the tummy.

I like to take a packet of chicken noodle soup and a packet cream of chicken soup and add 1.5 cups of boiling water in a insulated mug. If I can find it some blackberry brandy is always nice.

here's a shameless plug; In the town of Delaware Water Gap in PA they have a bakery there that sells chicken pot pies...they are darn good, and will definitely warm anyone's belly. One of the best bakeries I've ever been in...not to be missed all you thru-hikers!
