I'm hoping this is a quick and easy "no" but:
Hiking the AT in the smoky mountains from the 15th to the 19th of April. I'm assuming I don't need to bring any sort of Traction such as microspikes, do I?

There is always a chance of icy conditions, but probably not. Any snow should be hardpacked but watch out for the post holes.

Dont underestimate the Smokies. March and April 2010, over 3 feet on the ridges in the Smokies. I was out just after this series of storms 3-4 times and it was slow goin, icey, snowy. Hikers werent using any sort of snowshoe so it was postholin and the trail took a beating. Makes for rough hiking and loads of folks dropped out in G'Burg and Fontana. Just sayin, It is a possibility during that time once you get above 2,500 feet and upwards of 4,500-5,000 feet, the weather can do some crazy sheyat.

Check the weather ahead of time, but for lingering snow I use Yaktrax if I had to.
