If you had to chose anywhere between the east coast (Maryland to Florida) and the a.t. for some good dispersed camping (free) and hiking in mid feburary, what would be your pick?

Planning to leave a 2-3 weeks before my mid march nobo start to test gear and what not.

Pisgah forest area near Looking Glass or in the Linville Gorge area NC. Both are great and plenty of dispersed rec sites around but not on the AT. On the AT I can only recommend in the Standing Indian mt area where I know there is dispersed rec sites.
