I learned a tremendous amount about gear selection from Andrew's book. That being said, I only learned to be a hiker/backpacker by actually getting out there and doing it. I think his book is a wonderful resource for anyone who wants to live the lifestyle of a backpacker.

Makes all AT thru-hikers look like wimps. Andrew could do it in 2 months EASY. Sho dang....

Uhh, he works at Starbucks. :sunSpeaking engagements, being published, pro deals, gear company affiliations, possibly a few endorsements, sells some stuff(he has at least one book out, his mapsets for the Hayduke Trail and Sierra High Route are VERY WELL DONE AND affordable!), web site hits, possibly/probably owns or is part owner in some hiking/gear cottage companies, leads paid hikes, etc. He gets it done and, IMHO, is an EXCELLENT steward of the outdoors and representative of the hiking community!

Andy did his presentation at the ALDHA Gathering in 2011 on his Alaskan Yukon trip. I was at the campground and missed it but from photos of the show it looked awesome.

I was only kidding about him working at SB. Check out his site. Lots of good info on it.

Am I the only one where the video consistently crashes at 1:02 ? (Flushing the browser cache didn't help.)
