I have just arrived in Dalton from Montana. I/we will be staying here for about a month until we start our thru. Does any one know of some good day hike and overnight trails nearby? I see jacks river and fort mountain. Anyone have other suggestions?

Interesting, my friend just moved there and I was thinking about kinda doing the same thing, staying with him for a while hiking locally, wait for the weather to be right and then starting. When are you starting your through?

I'll be starting the first week of March. Most likely March 3. I have family and friends I am visiting here. The weather is very nice right now and I am anxious to get out and explore.

You are close to Chattanooga. The Cumberland Trail, John Muir Trail, Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain, Raccoon Mountain, Cloudland Canyon. Enough trails to keep you busy for a year.

Great, thanks. I'll do a little research and see where we end up. These all seem to be good choices.

I was searching for home town and found this tread, today.

Sorry to bump a year old thread, but I thought that was better than creating a new one.

I live in Dalton.
62 miles west of springer
70 miles north of atlanta
15 miles of chattanooga

If anyone is/comes around here, let me know. I could take you to some local trails, etc.
