Looking to do a short section hike(50-75 miles) the second week of May. Trying to decide between Harpers Ferry to southern Pennslyvania or the Roan Highlands in Tennesse. Open to other areas that would be nice this time of year. Any suugestions appreciated. Thank you.

If you like to see Spring wildflowers, both sections are terrific in May.

The Roan Highlands are spectacular. You have to ask yourself (1) how much of a physical challenge do you crave or put another way, can you tolerate? (2) do you mind sharing the trail with lots of thruhikers? Both of these points are present for a May hike in Tennessee. By contrast, hiking the MD section of the AT is much easier but as I said, still rewarding with the flowers and early Spring growth.

Atkins to Damascus is 75 miles.

Thanks for the input. I forgot about through hikers in Tennessee in May.

Blue Ridge Parkway area of VA will have hikers but the mt laurel displays are exquisite.

I vote for Roan. Probably my favorite section.
