So by looking back through the forum, I have found that there is campsites, there arent places to camp, there is water, and it's bone dry. So what is it?

There are plenty of places to camp and water comes out of a spring. Sometimes in the fall the spring is dry.
When you cross the highway ... you can use the port-pots if they're unlocked ... continue on the Trail but look to your RIGHT and you'll notice trails up to ridge ... you can set up there or you can hike up the ridge and over to the campsite that overlooks the parking area.
Just look to your right and you'll find the sites.
WATER should be off the Side Trail that's farther up the AT ... to the left, IIRC, and down ... quite a few hundred feet.
Sometimes you'll find Trail Angels with water and goodies at Woody Gap, too.
