Here's hoping the third time's the charm. I'll be day-hiking this Friday (Feb 15) and Sunday (Feb 17). I'm getting tired of a few miles out-and-back and I'd love to do a 7 to 12 mile, one-way hike. If anyone's interested we can drop a car at one trailhead and shuttle ourselves to the start. Harrisburg area, Swatara, 501, 309, DWG, NJ, you name it, I'm game.

My hiking style is easy-going, slow-but-steady.

C'mon, let's do this. Right now is the best hiking weather!

Sunday might work for me. Let me look into it and reply tomorrow - my data book is in my desk at work.

PA Route 944 to Duncannon (Doyle Hotel) is 13.4 miles. Duncannon to PA Route 225 is 8.4 miles. Boiling Springs to PA Route 944 is 12.3 flat miles. All are good options for me this Sunday. Doesn't matter to me which direction.

My husband and I are available for a Sunday hike. Let me know if you would like some more company and where you are planning to hike and maybe we could meet up.

The more the merrier! I'm thinking the 2nd or 3rd suggestions work best for me.

It's gonna be a bit cool on Sunday. If you want to drive down this way, I'm in. Pros & cons to both hikes. Route 225 to Duncannon is shorter and scenic but the rocks might be slippery. The Cumberland Valley is longer but doesn't have any views. What are your thoughts?

prancing ginger, you and your husband are more than welcome. Both hike options are easy to reach from Routes 11/15.

Let's say 11:00 at the Boiling Springs Iron Works (Fisherman's) parking lot on Bucher Hill Road - Mile 0.3 in the Section 11 listings of the Rohland's AT Parking site. (http://appalachiantrail.rohland.org/)

Meet there, take one vehicle up to Route 944, then hike back to Boiling Springs. I can start earlier if it's better for y'all. Once we're set, we can PM contact info.

Sounds good to us. We can start earlier as well, if it is better for Second Half. If not, 11 will work out fine.

I should stop trying to organize or participate in group hikes. Something always seems to come up that causes me to cancel and sure enough I was just told I have to cover at work tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvience and I hope this doesn't prevent y'all from going. Have fun!

We are just about ready to leave. We are going to look overprepared and probably over-dresssed but it's a good occasion to test out some new gear and some new clothing!

Well Second Half, thanks for starting the thread. Prancing Ginger, her husband Matt and I had a great hike today. The Cumberland Valley may be flat, but it's still a workout, especially with cold winds and below-freezing temps.

Post-hike shower - check.
Ibuprofen - check.
Dog on lap in Lazy-Boy - check.

All in all, a great way to spend a Sunday. Matt & PG, thanks for driving down!

I am planning on hiking that section Friday, March 8th. I would like a partner but if not a shuttle from the Doyle to 944 would be great. Would you be up for either?

Not me. I have to work every day for the next three weeks so I can take off for my next section hike in VA.
