I have been looking around for my yearly trail runner replacement and after looking for awhile, it looks like New Balance no longer has an 800 series trail runner. For many years when I went to replace a pair, starting at the 801, they usually came out with a new model named a 802 and so on. Some models were great and some not so great but they usually were true to fit and had good tread, although the trend was in general lightweight and more mesh as they went along. These days I dont see any new 800 series that attempt to continue the series. The closest thing I see is the 610 http://www.newbalance.com/New-Balance-610v2/MT610-V2,default,pd.html?dwvar_MT610-V2_color=Grey_with_Black. I have size 13 4 E so switching brands isnt a good option

Any other 800 series fans figure out why they would walk away from this market and what alternatives there are?

I'm sorry to here that. I've been wearing the 800 series for a few years myself. I wear my 814's everyday of the year. I have one pair that is good for another 300 miles and a pair that is good for another 100 or so. Doing about 150 miles a month right now so will be looking for something else by June.

if you ever com south (everything being relative)the factory store in Lawrence might be worth a short detour off the highway.

I use the 610s and really like them. The last for the 600s is a bit wider than the 800s. I tried the 810 4E and it was narrower than my 610 2Es. I just wish they would last longer. Best place I have found to order them is on Amazon.

A runner friend gave me an extra pair of Vasque 7516M and to my surprise they work fine. I've been a NB 8XX (EEEE width) fan for about ten years and that is indeed saddening news they're going away.

I have not hiked a long trail yet with the Vasques so I don't know how they compare in durability.

Below is the answer to my earlier question about the availability of the MT 810 throughout 2013. The MT 810 V2 is available at Zappo's.

Dear Bernie,

Thank you for responding so quickly. Please know that the current MT810 will be phased out. However a newer and updated version, the MT810V2, will be released in February 2013. This new version will be in production through November 2013.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,
Silke
