He's (assuming a "HE") is already downsizing by selling one of the set. Obviously, "he" isn't married, as he has one to sell.

Since "he" is in MA, what kind of taxes are added onto that sale?

Mine also seemed to get downsized after I got married.

"Why pay your own way if others are willing to do it for you?"-Seems to be a common attitude these days.

I personally am not comfortable taking money from others. There is a satisfaction to knowing you did things on your own for me at least, and I try to instill that in my children, but "to each his own."

Hell, I wish I had a bunch of extra cash around that I didn't need........ this seller deserves a few bucks just for originality!

Am I the only one that noticed he estimates his food cost to be $600?
Seems a tad low for a thru
He will need to sell at least 2 balls to fund that.

Camel can I have 20 bucks?

Sure, i live in Oklahoma. Need directions?

Honestly, I'm not big on charity, but i have no problem helping a person in need, and wanting to do a thru-hike doesn't qualify as in need to me. There is a big difference in hustling to feed your family and soliciting money to take a vacation. Some people are just raised different i guess.

oh c'mon camel, it's just funny.

I know, and i may have been to serious for the thread. I should have thrown some emoticons in there.

Just find it weird that people will give a stranger money to take a vacation.

Pet RocksBy Tamara WestonThursday, Dec. 23, 2010
http://img.timeinc.net/time/photoessays/2009/top10_toy/pet_rock.jpg AL FRENI Imagine owning a pet that doesn't need to be trained, walked, fed or groomed — ever. That's exactly what California ad executive Gary Dahl was after when he came up with pet rocks in 1975. Tired of the hassle and responsibility that came with animate house pets, Dahl developed a toy concept that was 1% product and 99% marketing genius: a garden-variety rock, packaged in a comfy cardboard shipping crate, complete with straw for the rock's comfort and holes so it could breathe during transport. The Pet Rock Training Manual — a tongue-in-cheek set of guidelines for pet owners, like housebreaking instructions ("Place it on some old newspapers. The rock will never know what the paper is for and will require no further instruction") — helped turn the scheme from an amusing gag gift into an inexplicable toy craze. By Christmas 1975, Americans were hooked. Although the fad was long gone by the following year, the rocks — which were collected from a beach in Baja, Calif., for pennies each and retailed for $3.95 — made Dahl a multimillionaire in about six months

OK, there is one thing I have never figured out, why do people that live near the trail have to go all the way to GA to hike the trail. The AT is not like a metro stop, there are no one way turnstiles marked entrance and exit.

He could save some money if he just kept his ball a started hiking.

I guess I don't get it. While the auction is obviously tongue-in-cheek, the dude would take whatever he could get for his ball(s). Now that's BALLS! What of the self-sufficiency that others have mentioned on this thread? I'd suggest that one of the hallmarks of the HYOH mantra is self-sufficiency. If someone must heavily depend on strangers to walk 2,000 miles, maybe it's not their year to do it. Just a thought.

what a shame... he is gonna have trouble selling the ONE non-majikal ball...now if he had TWO MAJIKAL balls...he would have cash overflow... and no chaffing, to boot ..
