I just got some of this tyvec, the 1443 stuff from a kite shop. Into the wind. Light as. all get out but seams to rip easy. I wanted it for a ground cloth under my tent. Am I missing something or is this stuff tougher than I think ?

I have been using the same piece of tyvek for several years and it hasn't torn yet. It is the house wrap variety. Don't know if that is the same stuff you would buy in a kite shop.

I washed the tyvek that came with my lightheart tent and it didn't rip. I think you need to get the stuff at the hardware store.

Tramp, I did not know there were separate grades of tyvek, not surprised..just didn't know. Did you ever find a "Slap Strap" for the fosters can? When are you leaving?

I used the same Tyvek (kite material) and have had great results... I have sewn a footprint and a few other misc things. No tearing problems for me. I am a seamster and love how easy it is to work with the stuff.

The 1443 is lighter weight and is more permeable than the house-wrap product. I had considered it, too, but its not as puncture-proof or as water-resistant as I would like for a ground cloth.

Tough stuff I put it threw the wash to soften it and make it less crinkly

I got 3 yards of 1443 Tyvek from Into The Wind for a ground cloth, expecting to trim it into a footprint for my SoLong 6. It's so light, I just fold it over to fit. I haven't have any problems, but I've only camped on it about 10 times or so. Lighter and much quieter than house wrap Tyvek.
