Ok WB, What are some of your favorite videos/movies/videoblogs about the trail that you have come across?

The best one that I’ve come across so far has been from a 2012 thru named Jeff Gray, a.k.a “Loner”. He has a series of videos of his hike posted on youtube. Search Loner2012at. They are down right addicting and really make me want to hit the trail. I think he does a great job of splicing videos and pictures (he has a great eye for photos) that really shows America’s trail at its finest.

What he does that a lot of videos that I see don’t do, is show a decent amount of the towns along the way. Watch a couple and tell me they aren’t awesome! You will have to watch them all.

Loner if you see this, props man!

From 2012 I like , Loner, FM (FatherMan), mfrenchy77 and biophthera - all good video series. There are many more also that I really enjoyed - too many to mention (or recall) here.

I'm not sure a great AT film has been made yet, puzzling since the PCT has had a couple really good ones. AT seems like An easy make, I don't know. I haven't seen them all obviously. Video journals drag, for me to get seriously interested there needs to be a story, a defined cast of characters, music, and 75 minutes of final footage. If anyone knows a good one like that on AT lemme know!

Seen it. I wasnt totally pleased with it. It's not a story, it's more like a commercial. I like "walk"by Squatch, his pct flick, but "flip flop flippin" his AT thing, wasn't the best. , I like Jesters Pct film "wizards of the pct "

This is a video of a training hike in the Smokies. Watch "Frost" as he completes his thru-hike. He is on the trail at this time. His work is excellent! http://thelongstarttothejourney.com

Carolina Cruiser's Appalachian Impressions is more of a documentary than a journal. I found it great showing to friends and relatives who don't know much about the trail.

I haven't been interested in southbounders bc it looks scripted. Is it?

Appalachian Trail - 2000 miles to Maine is my favourite.
Mostly follows one hiker and I think shows some of the good and the bad.

I haven't been interested in southbounders bc it looks scripted. Is it? Yes, pure fiction. Still, decent movie, at the time it streamed on Netflix. Doesn't now, but does on Amazon ($2.99, I think). I haven't seen Trek, but look forward to it.

I liked Trek and Southbounders. :D

Although I think part of the reason for the 'hang food in shelters' thing comes from that rat scene in Southbounders. So take it with a grain of salt!

I really liked the Nat Geo film...BUT...it went way off tangent 2 or 3 times. The worst was about water quality. They got pretty far "down off the mountain" for way too long. It was more like it was the producer's pet project, and he had to slip it in...too much though. Would be a great film if you cut out 20+ minutes of off-topic.

If you want to buy Trek I'm sure you could find it on Amazon or purchase it directly through their website.

southbounders would have been alot better with Kate Middleton! :)

Trek was quite entertaining. The one guy says "It hot as b@lls!" i found quite funny. just the inflection in his voice nailed it.

Enjoyed Lola and Sunrises 2010 trail video.

Scripted and the main characters are all actors. Netflix has it billed as a "documentary" so I thot they were going to follow actual hikers on the trail. Not.

I don't watch a lot of these videos, but I haven't seen anything better than the first one I saw, "Five Million Steps".

Really enjoyed all the 2011 and 12 video series and spent A LOT of time watching videos before my hike. Some faves were Chris Miller/Clean Shaven and Lindsey/Tupper. There were lots more too. As far as dvd type deal - watched 2000 Miles to Maine at least 10 times before my hike. Really enjoyed the flip flop videos too.

We followed Loner's journey last year; checking daily for updates! He was stellar at conveying the beauty along the trail and remained positive, one would think hiking the AT is simple; not the case this year!!

I watched Southbonders and was not impressed. They depicted the AT like a ghost town like there was barely any hiker other than those three hikers on the trail. For an amateur film was not bad but nothing more.
