For starters, a little more information regarding your hostel. Are you listed in any thru hiker guide books ? Dogs: yes or no . Alcohol -ditto, Rates for rooms and what's included.
Google map directions to your hostel .

Wish you the best of luck .

Asking no pets....alcohol ok but not a party place as we only have room for 7 each night and live in a quiet residential neighborhood...20 per night...7 for dinner 5 for breakfast...snacks available for sale.....

I would encourage you to see if Lois at Dutch Haus in Montebello would allow you to hang an advertising poster with business cards at their hostel.

Also, Grace Lutheran Church in Waynesboro is well thought of, but does have restrictions like 5PM check in, closed during the day and closed on Sundays. Perhaps they could refer hikers to you who need early check in, etc. It is run by Woody Graf. The secretary at the church has his cell phone number.

Just out of curiosity since, if things were to work out perfectly for me, I could see myself wanting to open a hostel in the distant future -- How do you get around zoning regulations for hostels in "quiet residential areas?" I would take it hostels are considered commercial lodging facilities. Is the key just to keep it informal? Do you apply for a variance? Or, do you just do it and hope that the neighbors / local zoning officers are cool about it?

I was wondering that myself. You don't "get around" regulations; the hostel is either legal or it isn't. If it isn't someone is sure to file a complaint and the government employee will enforce what is on the books. They're not going to "look the other way" cuz it would cost them their job. Hopefully the OP has researched the regs and this in compliance. Sounds like a nice place to stop.

Not all towns have such zoning regulations.

I stayed at stanimals hostel a few weeks ago and can thoroughly recommend it. Clean facilities, great breakfast, and a nice place to rest, get clean, and refueled before moving on. Adam knows what a hiker needs and delivers. Thanks again for the nice stay.
