I've got a ride to Springer. I have to leave when I get to Franklin to return to Florida for a week, then return and get back on the trail. My initial research is showing no Greyhound, Trailways, Amtrac or any long range transportation access. Ideas???

Amtrac has a stop in Gainesville. Don't know about bus service. Atlanta has Amtrac and bus. I know Survivor Dave will pick you up in Franklin and take you to either place.
If it was me I'd probably start my trip after my business was finished in FL and not worry about the time and expense to make that roundtrip.

Hertz has a rental agency in Franklin. Otherwise it's a shuttle to Asheville, Gainesvile, Toccoa, or Atlanta.
And by the way --Gene is a great shuttle option also-----------

This is a county operated Dial-A-Ride Service that only runs on weekdays with service by appointment only
Call the dispatcher at 828-349-2222, office hours are 7:30am – 5:00pm
In county service is by appointment 24 hours in advance
Out of County is by appointment 1 week in advance
Shuttles are provided to the following towns: Waynesville, Bryson City, Asheville
