Staring on Springer Mountain, where is the first trail register?

There is one on Springer, I didn't know it was there so I never did sign it. Then one at pretty much every shelter if it hasn't been used to start a fire.

Its right at the start. There is a large rock which has the plaque on it. There is a box built into the side of that rock. The register is in that box. Picture:

There is also a register at Amicalola Falls State Park visitor center (in case you didn't realize that).

shouldn't count the one at Amicola Falls State Park since it's not part of the AT. The first register is at Springer MT.

Right, but you can register with them for a 'thru hiker number' that you can compare at HF and BSP if you are interested in that sort of thing.

springer mtn. shelter. the one in the rock is still on the blue-blaze trail

People should sign the register at AFSP and at BSP because thats how the ATC calculates how many people hiked the trail that year.

Is it reguired of a thru hiker to sign these registries? What registrations are required if any of a thru hiker NOBO?

The only required registration is the GSMNP and SNP
