His broken Hiker pump handle can be fixed easily if you check out my recent post here on Whiteblaze. See below link. The Hiker is junk? I agree that the pump handle is woeful crap and poorly designed as I've been thru 3 pump handles before fixing the last one. But the Hiker can suck up water from a tiny seep spring pool and get it into your bottle. Can the Sawyer suck up water like a pump? This is important as many water sources are tiny pools.

0F CONDITIONS
Is the Sawyer strictly a gravity-fed unit? If so, and if using his set up, well, imagine what will happen in the winter at 0F?? While the Platy is hanging the tubes and nozzles freeze solid in the open air. One advantage to the Hiker is that you can store it inside your down parka for 30 minutes and then pump away quickly and this works even at -10F. I'd like to see the Sawyer in action in severe cold.

i'd have 2 qts filled with my hiker pro before you could even fill that platty and hang it. :-)
