A couple years ago I was flying with my backpacking gear and had my gossamer gear LT4s in a tube strapped to the side of my backpack. The Lt4s are two piece adjustable poles so they don't get that small. My backpack fit the luggage requirements but they measure from the longest point which was the tube that my poles were in. This pushed my backpack into a different category and there was a $99 fee. Luckily my plane was overbooked and I got switched to another airline and the other airline took my backpack and didn’t count the tube in their measurement. I just saw this on CNN’s website.

I’m assuming that if ski poles are now allowed that trekking poles will be as well.
