Over a period of weeks, I've been able to get my gear weight down considerably by asking a lot of questions, reading, getting rid of redundancies, finding items with more than one purpose, etc. I'm sure my list is FAR from perfect so I welcome any input from the pros here. I'd still like to shed a few extra pounds off my pack if possible.

When/where are you hiking? Some observations:

sleeping pad
leave the fishing stuff
10 coffee filters?
potable aqua? - consider aqua mira instead
filter straw?
leave the razors
instead of cotton socks consider hiking socks
hand sanitizer
guidebook
1 lighter is enough
1 emergency blanket
ear plugs

Can't comment on temperature related items because don't know when/what you are doing.

See you on the trail,

Thank you!. I forgot to add the mat (weight=a few oz's). I will definately go through your suggestions and try to use them to lose another pound (or two). Also, I'm wondering if I really need the poncho and the 3 garbage bags.

So why 3 garbage bags? Your list looks better but some stuff you will find just sits in your pack and you wont use it. My philosophy, if I havent used it in 2 days, ditch it!

I'm a noob too, but you are really working hard to get this right and I think that is admirable! Some things will just be experience, like Chaco said if you don't use it before Neels Gap, ditch it or send it home.

As someone new to all the new lightweight gear, I like going through gear lists ... but it really helps to have the name of the brand listed rather than just the generic "tent" that weights x pounds ...

I have said the same thing through numerous gear lists.

You have the wrong whistle.

Work smarter. Not harder.

I am working through my pile of antique gear that I thought was hopelessly heavy. Looking at doing my own Section 1 this year. So far it looks like my old Thermarest Ultralight pad is the only thing that would benefit greatly from new technology.
Stay tuned. Tood, keep working on your list.

ASSUMING YOU ARE THRU HIKING AT:
Todd52: Get rid of:
-3 rolls of toliet paper!??!? For REAL!!?!?!? Drop it to one or a half roll.
-Mirror-drop it.
-Wire saw-drop it.
-Brass whistle-drop it if you need a whistle get a plastic one.
-Drop one of the emergency blankets and perhaps both!
-Drop one lighter. One is enough.
-Drop Mag bar. You GOT A LIGHTER!!
-3 blade knife??!? It is probably to your advantage to obtain a small light one blade knife. I know, I know, knives are cool and we are outdoors and all. But you will see the things you will be cutting will be few and far, far between.
-Drop the shovel
-Drop cotton socks. "Cotton kills" in the outdoors. Obtain socks made from wool, or merino wool or synthetics that wick and dry quickly and when wet still retain their insulating properties.
-3 underwear briefs?!? Wear one and keep one and ditch one or put it in your bounce box. Same thing as socks, must be from synthetic fabric.
-Some male hikers wear running shorts with/without the inner lining. I keep one set of briefs for wearing with hiking pants and use running shorts with the inner lining in to give support and to act as underwear and for modesty sake.
-Tent. Go to a tarp if you wish to have more room (I assume you do as you are using a 2 person tent). This will be much lighter and you'll still have the advantages of room.
-What are your sweater, pants and shirt made of? Put on your wish list if you wish (smile): fleece sweater, nylon pants, polyester shirt (or some similar type for wicking properties).
Happy Paddy's Day! God bless all here!

I would suggest against the fleece sleeping bag. Syn or down is the way to go. If its going to be warmer than 60 degrees, use a liner or no bag at all.
