I hiked the trailed from Georgia to Vermont a cpl years ago and I'm takin some youngin's out with me for a 3 day hike and for a week long hike. We're based out of CT but I don't remember any epic spots in CT so I'm thinking about trying to head a couple of hundred miles north or south either way I remember loving those long arduous woodland sections with rocky tips that would suddenly break out into epic fields. Does anyone have any really great suggestions for section hikes?

Young ones...take em to Shenandoah, to southern VA and the Grayson Highlands, northern MA, and the north half of Vermont. None of them are overly difficult and all have great views. It's a great way to break em in and get them loving trail life!

There are some nice options - maybe not as spectacular but still lovely - close to home for you. Have you done the section from Salisbury to Great Barrington? There are fantastic views of the Housatonic valley from Bear, Race and Everett.

Or turn left after Bear and blue-blaze over to the South Taconic trail, catching the view from Frissell and Alander (and the corner of the three states) and coming out at Bash Bish Falls.
I hear that Connecticut's Mohawk Trail (the former A-T route until a landowner closed the trail because of hiker misbehaviour) is also gorgeous, but I haven't done it yet.

Do Glastonbury and Stratton, Vermont. Two really cool mountains with great firetowers and views. Terrain is nice and the climbs are challenging but not ball busters

Just to clarify - you're talking "northern half" of just the AT in Vermont, not the Long Trail?
