View Full Version : Smokies map and guide book needed
I will be hiking from NOC through the smokies. I am looking for a good guide book and map.
Just to be clear I am looking for a recommendation, not to purchase one from someone.

The NatGeo map is the only one I'm aware of and it's not very good. Or at least it's not detailed.

I like the natgeo map well enough.

The little brown book comes with a map. That would be for the whole GSMNP. If just going thru, probably follow the recommendations above.

I've got the NatGeo map, and it's perfectly acceptable.

Its all you really need.
The Nat Geo map and the $1 paper map the park sells.

All 3 are pratically identical. Just print from the link.
Years ago when I hiked the georgia section I remember having a guide book/map combo I purchase for the georgia section. I recall that a new book/map was available for each state, but I cannot find any of these or remember where I got it at.

The Nat Geo map or download the Smokies Trail Map PDF.
Both the GA/NC and NC/TN ATC guide books contain the descriptions for the Smokies.
The companion as well.

Dont waste your time buying a map. The GSMNP map from the website that shows all the trails, camps, shelters, is more than you need map-wise.
Print it out on 11x17, put it in a ziplock.
