I am in the market to buy my first pack. I have been borrowing an OLD external frame Kelty for the last few years. It sways alot and falling apart so I am looking to get my first pack. I have looked at several and the Gregory Savant 58 seemed to fit very well and was comfortable. Does anyone have this pack? Thoughts? Concerns?

Great pack, great features, lot of storage, suited me well for a 5 day section,

Looks decent, not overly heavy. If it fits well and carries your stuff, go for it. If it were me, I'd buy it from someplace that will take it back if it turns out to be painful on a longer hike. (REI comes to mind.)

And as expected, great customer service from the folks at Gregory if anything goes wrong for whatever reason.

I actually found it at REI. They just opened one 2 weeks ago here and I think I'm in love!

So it also has a spot for a water bladder. I see Camelbak makes a 50, 70 and a 100? Is it bigger the better in a pack or is 100oz too much? Any other brands I should look at?

My 2 liter works pretty good with the savant

I seriously considered the Savant 58 when I needed a new pack for my trip last year. Unfortunately I also need to accommodate a bear can which is ultimately what drove me to my final choice, a Deuter ActLite 65+10. Had that not been the case I'd most likely be wearing the Savant today. I had actually purchased a Kestrel 68 but returned after finding it didn't feel comfortable fully loaded with a full hydration bladder. The bladder awkwardly pressed against my spine.

I really liked the roll top of the Savant. They seem to be making a comeback with Gregory's new packs. It also felt real comfortable.

Well I made the leap and bought this pack. I am very excited to try it out. We leave Tuesday so just a few days away! I can't wait to see the difference between a new internal vs my 20yr old external framed Kelty

Apologies if this is a bit of a thread hijack... I have a Gregory Z55 and I love it, but I've worn it out. Does anyone know the pros and cons of the Z55 versus the Savant 58. Looks like about a 6 oz difference in weight. Thanks!
