I am only doing section hikes right now but planning to do a thru hike either next season or in 2015. This year I plan on hiking the Ga section from Neals gap up to Fontana damn. This is my list, any feedback would be helpful.

My pack, I removed the top and only use the bag on my hikes, I made the mistake of purchasing before getting more information. My pack is much to big and heavy for what I need but it is what I have.

I do believe I'd carry less food and resupply along the way for more variety.

Good luck on your hike!

I do believe I'd carry less food and resupply along the way for more variety.

Concur on you carrying too much food. As section hikers, our appetite usually wanes during the first week out, so you'll likely eat less than you plan. Most sections of 100 miles usually include one or more resupply points or mail drops. Then there are the various deli's, park snack bars and pizzas that break up the monotony of trail food.

You might also exchange the water filter for tablets or drops as they're lighter and take less space.

I too hammock, but only use 4 stakes for the corners of my tarp. If you PCT bear bag take 5 as the "spare" stake is ideal for sliding out of the PCT rig.

Great list. See you about the trail!

Nice list. Depending when you're going may see you in GA this summer, it will be my first section of the trail.

We have hiked that section and enjoyed it tremendously. If you are interested in our experience, you can read about it here:
